At the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (abbreviated as KNRM in Dutch), ASK permanently monitors the occupancy rate of their professional volunteers. The system takes into account individual preferences with regard to employability and provides targeted multichannel process guidance and support information. As a result of a successful pilot, all 42 rescue stations will be using ASK by the end of this year.
ASK assures relief services to be operating 24/7
About 1100 KNRM volunteers are willing to risk their own lives in order to save those of others. Previously, this commitment often interfered with their jobs or private lives. Currently, volunteers give in their own availability preferences by either using the ASK planboard or a dedicated phone number (0800 - ASK KNRM). ASK takes these preferences into account while maintaining the required occupancy rate at each rescue station.
In case of shortages, ASK automatically finds replacement or escalates to a planner when interacting with the volunteers does not suffice. The deployment of ASK marks a new phase for the KNRM in which they extend their number of volunteers without increasing the complexity of planning.
